Hello folks. I have been searching for a copy of a tape or possibly even its origin that consisted of about 10 EMS songs. They had a southern beat to them and were quite funny. They consisted of songs like: The cyanotic blues, Dropped on the line, Coming and Going and a song similar to the classic Alices Restaurant that told a story of how the writer became an EMT. Any information regarding the groups name or where I could find a copy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Matt

Boy, do I ever know it! The name of the group is EMS Country Express and the name of the album is "You Respond To Everyone But Me: Songs For The EMT".

Great album! Check my post "Speaking of Music..." under the "Off Duty" section of this forum. I have a copy of the cassette tape, but my dubbing equipment is shot or else I'd cut you a copy. A couple of the posters under my post offer to make copies as well, and one of them said he knows the guy that made the originals; the actual musicians, that is.

Check it out.

Peace,
RG

I've located the lyrics to one of the songs on the EMS Country Express album..

The Ringmaster (author unknown)

OK, ladies and gentlemen, lets get down to this critique.
I've looked at the reports, Seems we've had a busy week!

Now, right away I'd like to say some words about supplies.
Our inventory's pretty decent, and I realize
Sometimes you need an item for use in your own pack,
But whoever took the defibrillator had better put it back!
Now while I'm on equipment, and I've mentioned it before,
Before you leave the bay make sure your rig will clear the door.
As you know, we've ordered a new cot for unit 6,
'Cause once those things have been run over, they're impossible to fix!

Sometimes I feel like the ringmaster in the circus.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the keeper in the zoo.
If things don't change, I'll go insane before the year is through.
I wish that I could trade in this entire crew!

Now, the Mayor has cut our budget, and though revenge is on our minds,
Last week at his party you stepped too far out of line.
I guarantee that someone here will surely get the sack
If I find out which one of you spiked the punch with ipecac!
And, it seems we're getting sued again, I'm sorry to report,
But if you wouldn't stop while on a run you could keep us out of court!
It's nice to hear that you asked the patient if he liked his coffee black,
But no more stopping at the Donut Store with someone dying in the back!

My doctor tells me that I can't take this much longer.
He says my heart just cannot take the strain.
If I could, I know that I should get out just the same,
'Cause if my heart holds out, I'm sure to go insane!

A note here for the gentlemen: You gotta think before you act.
Some patients are quite sensitive, so try to use some tact.
When a woman asks you why a chest survey is being done,
Tell her that "It's necessary," and NOT "Because it's fun!"
Last of all, our protocols leave no room for debate:
The patient must be fully unconscious BEFORE you intubate!
OK, I hope you got that down. I hope enough's been said.
And, I hope I never hear of these things happening again!

I must relax, 'cause I can't let this job get to me
A first attack I believe I could survive,
The ER's good, the doctors there could treat and stabilize,
but I can't trust this crew to get me there alive!

Sometimes I feel like the ringmaster in the circus.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the keeper in the zoo.
If things don't change, I'll go insane before the year is through.
I wish that I could trade in this entire crew!

The Artist in the Ambulance is a great ems song by the band thrice...
written after the band had a bad mva on tour

LYRICS-

"The Artist In The Ambulance"

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel lift me up
And I open bloodshot eyes into fluorescent white
They flip the siren, hit the lights, close the doors and I am gone

Now I lay here owing my life to a stranger
And I realize that empty words are not enough
I'm left here with the question of just
What have I to show except the promises I never kept?
I lie here shaking on this bed, under the weight of my regrets

[Chorus:]
I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound

Look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares
It gets me down but I'm still gonna try to do what's right, I know that there's
A difference between sleight of hand, and giving everything you have
There's a line drawn in the sand, I'm working up the will to cross it and

[Chorus]

Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of always talking when there's no change
Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of empty words, let's lead and not follow

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel steal me from the
Greedy jaws of death and chance, and pull me in with steady hands
They've given me a second chance, the artist in the ambulance

Here are a few links to lyrics of Ambulance songs.

The Blood Brothers - ambulance vs ambulance - Heavy acid hip hop genre

The Flaming Lips - Mr. Ambulance Driver - Easy Listening?

Vybz Kartel - Call the Ambulance Can't find the lyrics, but the album seems to be an entire incident.

And this will tell you why ambulance is written backwards.

There's also a song called

" Priests and Paramedics " it's by Pedro the Lion. Sort of light and tuney, but it's not bad.
LYRICS:
Paramedics, brave and strong
Up before the break of dawn
Putting poker faces on
Broken bodies all day long
The neighbors heard a fight
Someone had a knife
It must have been the wife
The husband's lost a lot of blood
He wakes up screaming "oh my god"

Am I gonna die?
Am I gonna die?
As they strapped his arms down to his sides
In times like these they'd been taught to lie
"Buddy just calm down, you'll be alright"

Several friends came to his grave
His children were so well behaved
As the priest got up to speak
The assembly craved relief
But he himself had giving up
So instead he offered them this bitter cup

You're gonna die
We're all gonna die
Could be 20 years, could be tonight
Lately I have been wondering why
We go to so much trouble
To postpone the unavoidable
And prolong the pain of being alive

Country western sounding: " Don't Crash the Ambulance " by Mark Knopfler

Don't often open up this floor
Since I handed in my gun
What all these keys are for
Now my tour of duty's done
You got to know the switches
Now you got your turn
Watch and learn, junior
Watch and learn

Now you will get your
Trouble spots
Here's one from
Down voodoo way
Bragged he had me
By the you-know-whats
Very funny, you don't say
The big enchilada
Stealing elections
Had to go down there
Trash collection
Got his cojones
On my desk in there
Made into a souvenir
Set of cufflinks, nice pair
The rest of him's
Someplace up here
Sometimes you got to
Put a shoulder to the door
Not so fast, junior
Listen to your pa
Here, son
I'm handing over to you
Don't crash the ambulance
Whatever you do

What we have here's
A dung hole place
Thought it was fly sh*t
On the map
Fat **stard, ugly face
And the personal crap
You can't move the barriers
You can't mess with oil and gas
Had to go down there
Stick a couple
Aircraft carriers
In his a**
Fancy dress
Medals chest
It's all in here
For all the gigs
Gas mask
Bullet-proof vest
All the usual rigs
There'll be things they missed
They didn't mention
You've even
Got a whistle in there
For attracting attention

Well, I think you're gonna
Be okay, son
You've had the tour, I guess
These two buttons
By the way
This one I hope
You never press
Some holy fool, just watch
Who's not like you or me
That one's the whole
Shooting match
Right there
It's the whole sh*taree
We don't forget
Who put us here, jack
That's page one
We talk soft
But carry a big stick
And pack the biggest gun
We don't like accidents
Major or minor
You don't want yourself
An incident
Don't ever invade china

Here, son
I'm handing over to you
Don't crash the ambulance
Here, son
I'm handing over to you
Don't crash the ambulance
Whatever you do. "

" Mr. Ambulance Driver " is pretty good someone mentioned that one

" The Artist and the Ambulance " is a favorite of mine. [already mentioned]

There's a lot more out there if you like rap and things of the sort. Kind of like..

" Call the Ambulance " - Busta Rhymes [ you have a good indication what that's about ]

" Ambulance Blues " - Neil Young or R.E.M [lyrics are .. okay ]

" Ambulance " - Brad Yoder [sounds like he's comparing a gf or bf to the kamikaze effects of an ambulance ride ]

Not really about an ambulance.. well kind of, but I enjoy the lyrics and the music :

" Infra-red " -Placebo

One last thing before I shuffle off the planet,
I will be the one to make you crawl
So I came down to wish you an unhappy birthday

Someone call the ambulance
There’s going to be an accident
I’m coming up on infra red
There is no running that can hide you
Cos I can see in the dark
I’m coming up on infra red
Forget your running I will find you

One more thing before we start the final face-off
I will be the one to watch you fall
So I came down to crash and burn
Your beggars banquet

Someone call the ambulance
There’s going to be an accident
I’m coming up on infra red
There is no running that can hide you
Cos I can see in the dark
I’m coming up on infra red
Forget your running I will find you
(Find you)

#Mumbling#

Someone call the ambulance
There’s going to be an accident
I’m coming up on infra red
There is no running that can hide you
Cos I can see in the dark

I’m coming up on infra red
Forget your running I will find you
Cos I can see in the dark

I’m coming up on infra red
There is no running that can hide you
Cos I can see in the dark
I’m coming up on infra red
Forget your running I will find you
I’ll find you
I’ll find you

Maybe these will help some pretzelmn, I have some on file, if anyone wants one of these songs. I get them and have made a few CD's of my own for listening while exercising/working, etc.

Drop me a line if you want more. I don't want to overwhelm da board!

That song is not actually called Ringmaster. It is called "The Critique." It is one of 5 that are listed on Myspace, under the music page "EMS Country Express." I grew up listening to that album, and my brother, sister and I can sing all of them word for word.

Actually for what its worth, the song you are referring to is called "Can't Trust This Crew (The Ringmaster)". not The Critique. Other songs on the album are:
** Side One **
You Respond to Everyone But Me
Haul and Run
Comin' or Goin'
I'm Just Sittin' and Waitin'
Cyanotic Blues
Can't Trust This Crew (The Ringmaster)

** Side Two **
I'm Damn Proud (to be an E.M.T.)
He Dropped on the Line
Intravenous Confusion
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Night
E.M.S. Express

It was made in 1981 by Emergency Training, a division of Educational Direction Inc. 181 Post Road West, Westport, Connecticut, 06880.

Absolutely great songs! If anyone has an extra cassette or LP they would like to sell, please let me know. I recently misplaced mine and have spent the last 2 weeks tearing apart every drawer in my house to find it again

They are extremely hard to come by now. A few years ago as I indicated in another thread along these lines, another EMSVillager was kind enough to let me have a cassette copy of her EMS Country Express album, but now, after having moved twice since then, I've misplaced that tape, too!

Anyone out there have an extra copy of either the LP, cassette or even a cd they'd be willing to part with for a fair price? If so, please send me a PM through the Village and we'll talk. Thanks!

Peace,
RG

How (WHERE) do I contact you thru village PM? This is my 2nd posting ever on the net... I don't even use texting on my phone... kind of old fashioned I guess.

Thanks.

Upper left hand corner where the lock symbol is, under "articles". That is where you can send a PM.

Littlemissdotts, I didn't know about PM either. Both Rob and RG are correct but to see the icon you have to be logged in, at least on my PC. I usually don't login unless I post a comment. So the icons are not there for me until I login.

I can't believe this thread exists. I'm not even sure how I got here but let me help you out.

Band members: Ray Gantek...............elec. guitar & pedal steel
Dennis Petersen.......acoustic guitar & vocals
Leigh Henrey.............drums & vocals
and me Jim Tutunjian.............Bass & vocals

We were a local country band when those crazy guys from the ems training company approached us to do this project. Getting a back stage look at what you guys do makes me think that musicians are somewhat on the normal side of things.

I still have a copy of the albumn.

I may be opening up a can of worms here, but if youre so fired up to have a copy, I left my profile open with an e-mail.

I have a great deal of respect for the work you have chosen.

Having taken care of my mother in her final years, I've had to use the services of my home town (Stratford, Ct.) emergency crew a number of times. I have nothing but high praise for the men and women here.

Has this thread really been around since 05. What persistence!

Be Well ........... Jim

Yep, it has. And it is even on this site in another thread somewhere. I love your music and I'll be contacting you.

Plus, just how cool is it to have a member of the band respond to our thread?!!!

Yupp over 5 years ago I started this thread and have enjoyed reading the lyrics everyone has posted. I check in everytime I receive an email that something has been posted and I can't tell you myself how excited I am about possibly listening to the sweet country vocals over and over again lol. Just sent my email off to Jim and hoping to get a copy again real soon. Thanks everyone for keeping the dream alive!!!
