I just ordered some NREMT-P patches for new uniforms and got a retarded looking round patch with no rocker on it. I don't like it and wanted to see what others think.

Basically the same patch without the rocker. The rocker design was taken off the original EMT -A (Ambulance) design, back when you were considered "provisional" until yuou had 6 months experience. Hmmm.. wished we still had that requirements.

Myself, I like the "shiny gold Disco patch"...But then, ain't it all about the fashion more than the medicine?? (Just kidding)

I didn't like the old one and I still don't like the new one. I'm glad we don't wear the NR patches on our uniform. In my opinion, they could do much better with the design and coloring of the patch.

While I will admit the new patch has what at least looks like a snake and staff in the star of life (the older patch has what looks like a traditional shaped barber shop pole in the star), my department is seriously considering changing to a self designed patch.

I happen to like my blue and gold patch and I am quite proud of it. I have been wearing it for 17 years and I am proud of the blood, sweat and tears I put into obtaining that patch. Sorry to all those who are ashamed to be a Paramedic and display it with the NR Patch.

just how many times do you need to see the word "paramedic" on your uniform before you remember you are one?

I'm proud to be a paramedic, just not proud about wearing that ugly patch...

I guess that is why everyone has different taste. I think the blue and gold is a good looking patch.

Best, most experienced medic I know likes to say that the only people who need to know he's a medic are himself and his patient. Everything else comes with reputation earned through actions.

That depends on what type of agency you work for.

Where I work you could have a uniform shirt made out of NREMT-P patches and still not be aware you are a medic the way they treat our medics.

Man! I just want that one that says "NSW Ambuilance Service" let alone paramedic multiple times

The again, maybe some of the US agencies have all those patches so they dont look like the coppas? Sometimes i cant tell the difference!

It is just amazing how you say blue and some hear green , red, yellow or something you did not say. I did not say I have PM posted all over my uniform and that I have it tatooed on my forehead. I replied to what the post was about. The NREMT patch. If it was good or bad, not bragging rights and showing it off for all to see.

It is a requirment of our service and state to wear your NREMTP patch. All I said was I was proud of what I put into earning that patch. That is why I am proud of the patch. It is like being married to the same person for 17 years. You learn to love it.

If you read my comments about people that post all the extra crap behind their names you would know I am against having a billboard on your uniform. But I do believe you have a responsibility to display the level of training you are working as to your patient.

I am one of those who believe your not a paramedic just because you wear a patch but because of how you treat patients. Same as a Doctor, RN and etc. Just because you wear MD or RN does not mean you are a good one. Again refer to the post where I voiced my opinion about this subject.

I am proud of being a paramedic. Paramedics, EMTs and Intermediates are far under appreciated. It is always the FIRE DEPT that saves everyone where I am from. Even though fire does not transport and they are not PMs. I see the work I do. I know my skills. I work to keep my skills up to date and not lacking. I strive to be the best of the best. Not for bragging rights but to be sure my patient receives the best care I can give. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing I only gave 50% on the call. Did I say I never miss IVs and tubes. No, I do, Everyone misses from time to time. We are only human. But as long as you can go home at night knowing you gave your best then that is all that can be asked of you.

Kind of like saying that medics who don't wear the patch are ashamed to be medics?

The medic I was refering to wears a company-issued badge and photo ID that indicate his level of licensure, but only because he's required to (and the only way to get close enough to read them would to become his patient).

Without putting words in his mouth, my guess is he considers a patch to only be for the benefit of other providers since they'll be the ones to recognize it (Admit it, the glitter makes the words almost impossible to read!).

Yes, I agree the new paramedic patches issued by the NREMT are horrible. I just recently graduated my medic program and successfully passed the NREMT-P tests and was really counting on recieving the old style patches. The new patches are bland and boring. I have tried without success to find any patches remaining on ebay. Please, if any who sympathize. Provide me with the location to purchase the remaining patches.

I wished I would have know earlier that this was going to occur and I would have stockpiled the current PM patches. I would send you one but I am down to a couple myself. Proud of the blue and gold

Sure it does. Do you make a habit of buying clothes that don't look good? Same principal.
