FOUR YOUNG PATIENTS RECEIVE FANTASY TRIP
PITTSBURGH (Jan. 29,2009) – Four young loyal fans are getting an opportunity of a lifetime to cheer on their hometown Pittsburgh Steelers in Superbowl XLIII, thanks to the combined efforts of STAT MedEvac, UPMC Health Plan, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, and American Medical Response (AMR) in Tampa.
UPMC Health Plan donated the tickets for the big game. To ensure their safety during their stay, the children will be escorted by a medical team provided by STAT MedEvac, the air medical service of The Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. The Tampa division of American Medical Response (AMR), locally known for community program participation with the Tampa children’s hospital, donated the ground transportation for the weekend.
The four children, ages six, seven, ten, and seventeen are all from the Pittsburgh area and share an obsession with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their illnesses include a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease, brain tumor, resection, bone marrow transplant, and kidney transplant. The four Steelers fans- all patients at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC – will travel to Tampa with a parent to watch Super Bowl XLIII between the Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals at Raymond James Stadium.
STAT MedEvac, a service of The Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., provides medical helicopter transport to patients with critical illness and/or injuries. The organization, which operates seventeen base sites, is directed by a consortium of hospitals: UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, UPMC Mercy Hospital, and Altoona Regional Health System.
American Medical Response Inc. (www.amr.net), America's leading provider of medical transportation, is locally operated in 40 states and the District of Columbia. AMR's 18,500 paramedics, EMTs and other professionals transport more than four million patients nationwide each year in critical, emergency and non-emergency situations. Operating a fleet of approximately 4,500 vehicles, AMR, a subsidiary of Emergency Medical Services Corporation, is headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colo.
